I’m Not. Some common sense could change a lot of lives and the cost of a lot of American made products.
Let’s look as some data released on Oprah, January 28, 2010:
- In 1960, Americans spent 18% of our income on food and 5% on health care
- In 2010, Americans will spend 9% on food and 17% on health care
It seems logical to say that as we spend less on nutrition…we spend more on health insurance. Who would you rather pay?
Remember that old commercial. Pay now or pay later. Don’t you find it funny that we can accept that we must do all the preventive maintenance to maintain our cars but not our bodies? So why are we surprised about insurance cost rising. Inputs (nutrition and exercise) create outputs (energy/health/wellness and happiness). Also discussed during the show was the documentary “Food, Inc”. They discussed about eating “real” foods, instead of processed foods, chemicals in foods and the relationship between getting your daily nutrients from these real foods and the role that they play in your health. The reason an apple is so good for you is that in has over 10,000 nutritional elements. Vitamin C is only one.
Why is it so difficult for Americans to wake up and understand that the only national call-to-action is a search for prevention, NOT “national health insurance reform.” Treatment from a private system or a government system is not the answer.
Healthy eating, exercise, moderation and a balanced lifestyle is the simple answer for controlling cost.
How do I know this?
The CDC in 2006, reported that 80% of deaths in the United States were caused by lifestyle related conditions such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. When you focus on the individual inputs that increase this risk, you can significantly impact on your cost on both the short-term and the long-term.
Tell me what you think?
