Like All Rain Clouds, There’s a Silver lining

The Example of this Paradox, this time, is the insane 2020 Lockdowns.

In my house, we started out cleaning the house, then moved on to the gardens. We ordered delivery of a huge

pile of wood chips, garden loam, a load of raised bed lumber and deer fence. Pandemic, Plandemic, it didn’t matter what was going on in the world, we had lots of physical work to keep us busy. Didn’t miss going to the gym, I had a farmer’s gym hauling lumber and dirt.

It all worked for me. I put on a few extra pounds but stayed pretty fit until winter slowed me down.

What was your experience Like?

Based on the constant Peleton, Mirror, NorticTrak and Total Gym advertisements I say the home fitness market was booming. And I heard the local bicycle shop sold out with back orders pending delivery. Another message send via the media was “follow the science”. So I did and hear is just one piece:

There is a growing body of literature that recognizes the positive effects of exercise on mood states such as anxiety, stress and depression, through physiological and biochemical mechanisms, including endorphins, mitochondria, ….. In addition, psychological mechanisms influence the effects of exercise on mood states, as suggested by both the distraction hypothesis and the self-efficacy hypothesis. Exercise has also been shown to reduce inflammation….. which can contribute to better health outcomes in people suffering from mood disorders.” https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29150166/

But Have we really changed or are we just adapting to the current situation?

Are You Ready to Go back? It seems to me that as things to do became more limited, physical work outs felt like a release from the constant media coronavirus fear porn on the news. Finally people seem to understand what wellness & health coaches fitness-coachand doctors have lectured us about our entire lives:

  • Exercise improves your mood
  • Strengthening your body, and
  • Your Immune system

The critical outstanding question is will we stay with this new healthy habit or revert back to couch potatoes once the restrictions are lifted?

I for one will be heading back to the local gym. I enjoy the community personal interaction as much as the work out.

Hope to see you there!
