How Do YOU Stay Motivated?

Consistency, Training and Practice

Continuing with today’s theme on wellness motivation I’m reminded of a  story about elephant training. By all accounts one would think training an elephant would be a big task. These animals are mammoth in size and are quite intelligent.>/p>

So how is this best done?

Based on my research and experience, all training is more effective when conducted in small steps. In addition, training that begins  at a very young age is easier to do, than trying to teach an old dog new tricks.

To help you remember this point of fact during your quest for better health, review this story below:

A gentleman was walking through an elephant camp, and he noticed  that the elephants weren’t being kept in cages or held by the use of chains. All that was holding them back from escape, was a small piece of rope tied to one of their legs.

As the man gazed upon the elephants, he wondered com why the elephants didn’t just use their strength to break the rope and escape the camp. They could easily have done so, but instead, they didn’t try to at all.

Wanting to know the answer, he asked a nearby trainer why the elephants were just standing there and never tried to escape. The trainer replied, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

So based on their training, the only reason that the elephants weren’t breaking free from the camp was that over time they adopted the belief that it just wasn’t possible.

Like these elephants we are trained to live out out lives with a set of beliefs. The key to success is learning how to break free from your limiting beliefs by willing to try new things. Your health is only limited by your lifestyle. Unfortunately, time is critical. The longer you wait, the more limited your optimal health with be.
