Although we are already into March, I thought it would be interesting to see what the “experts” predicted would be the trends in field of health & wellness. To summarize, I took a list reported by “Healthiest” Editor, Anna Magee. Here are her ten….

Top Health & Wellness Trends in 2019
  1. “Eco-Keto” eating
  2. Rowing is the new spin
  3. The rise of the mesonutrient
  4. Brain boosting nutrition
  5. Brain-hacking smart jewelry
  6. Fat fasting for weight loss
  7. Technical Running
  8. Spiritual Skin

What say you?

Here is my opinion of Health & Wellness for 2019…

F-D-Gifford

Following the latest trend in health is not always a wise choice. Establishing your own wellness program, or wellcare plan as I call it, is not about fads. It is about facts. Therefore…

… the perfect time to start implementing the changes you want to make to achieve a healthier lifestyle, is today. Forget the calendar. Keep it simple, pick 3 goals for the next 3 months. Then reset 3 more for the next 3 and repeat, until you achieve the lifestyle you need to feel healthier. The problem most of us face is the need for inspiration. Hopefully, most site can help.

Here are four health and wellness trends you can expect to here from me with out any buzz in 2019. But who cares what I say. Topping my list is “Plant-based” diets, Sound Therapy, Sleep Quality, and Breathing Clean Air.

1. Start eating a more complete Plant-Based Diet

As they say, diets come, and diets go, but eating healthy, mostly plants is what our creator designed for us. Unfortunately, we humans like to complicate things. For example, remember the “low-fat” craze of the 1990s, that gave way to “low-carb” diets in the 2000s. Then they gave us the “Paleo” diet, followed by the current diet trend, the “Keto” diet.

FYI, What is the Keto diet? – Basically, “a keto or ketogenic diet is a very low-carb diet, which can help you burn fat more effectively.” …“The ‘keto’ in a ketogenic diet comes from the fact that it allows the body to produce small fuel molecules called “ketones”. This is an alternative fuel source for the body, used when blood sugar (glucose) is in short supply.” When you lower carbs, your body produces more ketones. Here is link for Keto beginners.

As exciting and innovative as that sounds, I prefer to stand by this sound piece of nutritional advice, eat fruits, berries and vegetables because they are good for you, so a balanced plant-based diet is becoming increasingly popular, whether that means going vegan (i.e. eating no animal products at all), or just making plant-based foods the centerpiece of your healthier eating (i.e. diet plan).

2. Sound Therapy

I know, you are saying, what the heck is that. I said the same thing when is saw in on one of the prediction lists. That said, I bet you have heard of the saying “music hath charms to soothe the savage breast” As I found out, there are therapist using sound, as in music or various tones to treat a number of conditions. Such as…Sleep disorders, Anxiety, Depression, Stress management, PTSD, Depression and even Pain management.

It turns out, based on research, sounds that relax us have something to do with brainwave frequencies. How could it hurt to listen to commonly used relaxation sounds like song birds, tibetan bowls, gongs or water flows daily. In our crazy rush, rush 24/7 world it sounds logical to schedule a time each day to calm your brain, just like we feed our gut. Rest is key to a healthy lifestyle, but quality rest is increasingly difficult to achieve per the expects. Here try my favorite Sound therapy as found on Youtube.

3. Improve the Quality of your Sleep

Now I know you are going to say that sleep or rest was covered by the sound therapy, but high quality sleep takes even more to achieve. The need for improvement is quite high in the U.S. with data showing that 43% of Females and 30% of Males have trouble sleeping through the night.

In fact, the week of March 10th is Sleep Awareness Week. Who knew that?

How Much Sleep do we need? “In general, Dr. Kreckman says newborns need 14 to 17 hours per day, older babies generally sleep 12 to 15 hours per day, toddlers range from 10 to 14 hours per day, school-age kids need 9 to 11 hours, and teens need at least 8 but up to 10 hours of sleep, while adults generally need at least 7 or 8 hours.”, Channel3000 Wisconsin.

How does the Quality of our Sleep impact our Health? Health experts recognize that sleep supports health in multiple ways, affecting your weight, blood sugar, immunity, heart health, memory and learning, breast cancer risk, and even lifespan. It is a two factor activity, requiring both quantity and quality.

4. Add Clean Air to your Lifestyle

I know this is another one of those items that sounds a bit out there, but removing toxic exposure from your life is a key part of the Core4-PLUS Wellcare Plan. And what you breath everyday is pretty darn important. This is supported by the Global Wellness Summit, who reported that over 90% of the people on Earth breathe polluted air. And, it is increasingly common to see people wearing an N95 face mask when outdoors. I personally am planning to use the dust mask when I use the lawn mower this year. Who knows what is in the dust it turns up.

While it is challenging to change the quality of the air in your town, city, state or country, you can do something about the air quality in your home.

The fact is, “Indoor air quality has wide-ranging effects on your health. Immediate concerns such as allergic reactions, odors, sore throat, dizziness and fatigue or more severe problems such as asthma, respiratory diseases, heart disease and some forms of cancer can be related to indoor air quality issues.” -Adam Helfman.

According to recent EPA reports on environment, indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air. Solutions may be as simple as avoiding insecticides, switching to nontoxic household cleaning productions, adding more house plans and maybe changing the filter on your air circulations system more often.

There are many worthwhile wellness activities, these four caught my attention, what trends do you see?
